A letter received in Auckland by the Sydney mail contains interesting details of conditions at the great coaling port of Newcastle. Few ships are requiring bunkering coal, and there is a generally quiet air about the port. The once exceptionally busy atmosphere of Newcastle has suffered a big change during the past few months, and in the words of one of the shipping masters there, "There is nothing doing." Among the ships which are awaiting loading there is the fine ship Golden Gate, which was here recently. The coal which she lifts at Newcastle Is for San Francisco. HUDDART-PARKER CO. The arrangements or the HuddartParker Co. for the Sydney and Southern services have been seriously disorganised by the labour trouble, and the Victoria, which should now be in port here and ready to sail for Sydney, has been detained in Wellington. Her departure for the Australian port —as therefore been Impossible. so that the We_tralla has been diverted, and will leave here on Wednesday for Sydney in place of the Victoria. The Westralia arrived here from the Australian port this morning, and she was, in the event of the ships fulfilling time-table ■obligations, to have sailed to-morrow for Southern ports.
