CRICKET.
I jSews comes from Capetown that F. S. Taylor, who tad been recognised up to the time of his enlistment this year, as one of the chief mainstays of the Pousonby Cricket Club's batting division, has been discovered as a bowler. Evidently military training ha.s developed in Taylor, now Corporal Taylor, an ability for attack, which was not recognised in !his civil life. The " Cape Times" records that a cricket team from a New Zealand transport which touched at the Cape on December 12, met a local eleven at Green Point racing track, and an interesting one-innings match was won by the home players by 13G runs to 100, a. feature of the winners' innings being their col]a<pse against the bowling ot Corporal Taylor after one of the side had knocked up 01 off his own bat. Taylor finished up with a bowling average of seven wickets for 50 runs. He also made 16 runs for his side. With his mind set upon breaking the world's record of a 140 yard throw with the cricket ball, Syd. Anderson, of South Melbourne, throw a distance of 132 yards lft. 3in. a week ago. A fewweeks ago Anderson throw the ball 127 yards at East Melbourne. There is such a strong opinion that Anderson is capable of •breaking the record with practice that officials of the Southern i-Inb are keeping- lijm at it. Anderson performed his feat in the presence of a number of people, and ilesers. E G Osborno, vice-presidi-nt of the Victorian Baseball Union, and \V. 11. Mcl'oruiaek, the southern secretary, ran the tape over the throw. He stands six feet in heig-ht, and is 'well-proportioned. His future efforts with a ball will be watched with interest.
