!* " i ROAD BOARD MEETING,? * "*"* '.A * The" fortnightly meeting of the Avondale Road Board.was held on Wednesday even-' ing. Mr. B. B. Nesbitt presided, other members present being Messrs. T. Copsey, J. Thomas, C. M. Best, It. Ward, W. H. Wyman, F. Hampshire.. Minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. The foreman reported having made a tour ot the district after,the recent heavy rains. He found that.much .damage had been done, for which a considerable amount of "money will toe required to put the roads right again:: A • ...-"■ ": -A- A .Tenders having been called for formation arid metalling' ot Henry. Street, Walton: Street, and Layard Street,; the following tenders were received: —Henry Street: A: B. Brody, £329 6/1; G. Knight, £361; Pooley' and I.eighton, £287 -.17/. Walton Street: A. B. Brody, £354 12/5; G. Knight, £363; Pooley and Leighton, £321 8/6. Layard Street:' A. 8.. Brody. £166 7/1:" G., Knight. £IS7: Pooley and Leighton, £152 5/.' Pooley- and Leightoh's tenders, being the,, lowest,'-were accepted for the--three roads. ■•■: - '. ? A very successful picture entertainment organised by Mr. R.'Ward for the purpose of augmenting the Wool Fund of the Avondale Ladles' I'atriotie Leagne, was held In the Town-Hall on Monday evening. The pictures screened by' Empson. were of:a very flue class. The attendance was large, and.it is expected,that the fund will be increased by about £9. '.','"
