BONAR LAW HOPEFUL.

A BRIGHT OUTLOOK ON ALL FRONTS. ALLIES HAVE ASCENDANCY. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON. 8. A brief reference to the military situation was made by Mr. Bonar Law, (Chancellor of the Exchequer) in a speech in the House of Commons to-day. He noted the absence of disasters and the favourable trend of the war in various theatres. Germany's aims in Rumania had been defeated, and the enemy was disappointed regarding corn and oil. Mr. Bonar Law referred with satisfaction to the accomplishments in Egypt, and said the position in Mesopotamia was eminently satisfactory. Everything pointed to the Allies' ability to defend the position in which they were placed at Salonika. Referring to the East African campaign, he said it was only a matter of a short time "before the last German l colony would be subdued. Continuing, Mr. Bonar Law said the position on the western front justified I confidence. The frequent British raids were invariably successful. Not a sin«la I counter-attack had succeeded. This had (resulted in the complete moral ascendancy of the British and French over the enemy. •'Our soldiers have again proved themselves more than a match for* their enemies," said Mr. Bonar Law. "Our inferiority in materials has ceased, and with our superiority in fighting spirit and material we may early expect the best results."
