DEATH OF AN OLD COLONIST.

MRS. C. SPEIGHT. A very old and esteemed resident of Auckland passed away this morning at her late residence, Paraell, in the person of Hn. Charlotte Speight, relict of the late SergeantMajor Speight, of the 58th Regiment. The deceased lady, who was in her eighty-seventh year, arrived in New Zealand in the early forties by the ship Minerva, and had resided in Auckland ever since, her marriage in old St. Paul's being one of the first to take place in that church. In her younger years Mr*, bpeignt experienced many of the excitementa and vicissitudes attending the lot of those who lived.in the stirring days ot toe Maori wars. Ker late husband predeceased her by over twelve yean, and ■he ia survived by two sons and four daughters—Messrs. C. Speight, of Hamilton, and H. Speight, of Cambridge, and Mrs. H. M. Warner, of Parnell, Mrs. J. Hardwick, of Pakuranga, Mrs. F. Xwiname, of Parnell, and Miss Speight. The deceased also leaves numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The funeral will take place tomorrow, in. terment being private. '
