FRENCH ATTACK ALONG A THREE-MILE FRONT
LINE ADVANCED AND 1-250 PRISONERS TAKEN. OUTSKIRTS OF ABLAINCOURT AND CHAULNES WOOD CAPTURED. (High Commissioner's Cable.) PARIS, October 11. A French communique states:—"We attacked on a front of over three miles, between Berny-en-Santerre and Chaulnes, south of the Somme.' Our infantry carried the positions, and got past at certain points near the hamlet of Bovent. The outskirts northwards and westwards of Ablaincourt and the greater part of Chaulnes Wood were conquered. The enemy sustained considerable losses, and 1,250 prisoners were taken." _ "The enemy bombarded the outskirts of Le Sars."
