NATIONAL GUARD.
PROPOSAL FOB. HOME DEFENCE (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) (Received 9.35 a.m.) LONDON, October 10. The "Daily Chronicle" proposes the formation- of a National Guard of 400,000 men, over the age of 41, for the purposes of Home defence, to relieve 400,000 men under the age of 41 for service abroad. The paper says the National Guard might be raised" voluntarily' if an absolutely firm undertaking were given that they would be exempted from all future" liability to serve abroad. Failing a voluntary response, the "Chronicle" suggests that compulsion should be resorted to. .../,,•.■_ ; . ■ , ■
