RUMANIANS RETIRE FROM KRONSTADT.
HOLDING NORTHERN END OF CARPATHIAN PASSES.
MINOR INFANTRY AND ARTEUUERY ACTIONS.
BUCHAREST, October 10.
The situation on the Rumanian fronts is unchanged. The Rumanians hold the heights dominating Petroseny, in Transylvania, and Jiu Valley, and have possession of the Caineni defile. The Rumanians evacuated Kronstadt in order to avoid the destruction of other public buildings, on which the enemy were firing. The position of the army i≤ excellent.
■■ A Rumanian communique states:—"The Rumanians in the Kronstadt district have been obliged to retire towards the northern ends of the Carpathian passes. Minor infantry and artillery actions favourable to the Rumanians took place in the Caineni and Vulcan Passes. There have been fierce artillery duels east of Zimicea, on the Danube." "German aeroplanes bombed warehouses and the northern station. The damage was insignificant. "Investigation has revealed numerous eases of tri-nitro4olueße, • big" explosive resembling picric acid, buried in the German Legation garden, aleo flagons intended to propagate a simultaneous epidemic among men and horses."
An Austrian communique states: —"There "was stubborn street fighting in Kronstadt before the Rumanians retired. General Falkenhiyn's troop* drove back the Rumanians near Toerzbnrg, south-west of Kronetadt, aad stopped and defeated them near Foldvar.' The army of General yon Aβ* » aew penetrating the G«organy Mountains, farther wnfh."
