LONDON, October 10.
a. French communique on the Balkan operations states: —"Eastward of the Struma there have been engagements between the British and the rearguard of the Bulgarian army which is retreating towards the railway. Upwards of 1,500 corpses were found at one point. The Serbians have made progress in the hilly region of Dobropolje. In a fierce battle on the right bank of the Cerna they again defeated the Bulgarians, and captured the village of Sticver. Further west they continue to cross the Cerna, between Dobboveni *nd Brod. The Bulgarians retreated northward of Brod. French and Russian troops have arrived before the new Bulgarian defensive Jine stretching from Eemali to Presba Lake."
