BEATEN ON BOTH FLANKS
THE SUBMARINE JRAID
ONE LINER SUNK WITHOUT WARNING
MORE TRICHTFULNESS PREDICTED
The British forces in Eastern Macedonia continue to drive the Bulgars back, and have now chased them from the eastern bank of the Struma to the hills above Seres, occupying several more villages in Greek territory which the Bulgars formerly held.
The piratical acts of the German submarine on the [American coast threaten to endanger the relations'between the two countries, and a great wave of anger is surging through America. It is asserted that one vessel was sunk without warning, in direct breach of the pledge given to America by Germany that no ships would be sunk without warning. The crew of fifty of another ship, which presumably met the same fate, is missing.
It is stated by a New York "World" correspondent who crossed the Atlantic with Ambassador Gerard that the demand for the resumption of the sink-at-sight policy has become so strong in Germany as to be irresistible.. The Ambassador, seeing a dark cloud ahead, has returned to America for full instructions as to what he must do when the storm breaks. Mr Gerard refuses to comment on this interpretation of his risit.
The Rumanians who invaded Transylvania are moving back to stronger positions in the hills. They have evacuated Kronstadt, in order to prevent its destruction, and have now taken up strong positions amid the passes.
