MANUREWA NEWS.

The Musical Society met in the Public Hall on Tuesday last, aud after a short chorus practice, met lv conversazione, and supper to farewell Mrs. Huntley, one of the society's active members, who ls leaving the district. Mr. C." H. Lupton, on behalf of the Progressive League, presented Mrs. Huntley with a very line travelling rug as a small recognition of the' good work that' Mrs. Huntley had done In organising socials and farewell concerts for the many young men who had enlisted from Manurewa.

The Manurewa Tennis Club held their annual meeting on Friday. The following officers were elected:—President, Mr. E. S. Pegler; vice-presidents, Messrs. Hawthorn, Burton, Corln, White, Lupton, and McNhughton; treasurer and secretary, Mr. C. Lupton; committee, Mrs. Phillips, Miss Lovell, Messrs. Bull and Osborne. The club had their official opening on Saturday, October 7.

Lupton's retirement from service as a layreader, after a quarter of a century's service, a social, which was well attended, wns tended him by the Anglican congregation in the PnbUc Hall on Thursday, Mr. Hawthorn, vicar's churchwarden, presiding over the gathering.
