ELECTRIC LIGHT.
INITIATED BY MCOUTCT EDEN.
A SUBURBAN CONFERENCE.
At a meeting of the Mount Eden Borough Council last night, Councillor J.. W. Shacklefard !f mojv:e4 according to notice that the "Council take steps to arrange a conference of local bodies around the city with a view to securing a hydro-electric service, having in mind the statement recently made by the Minister of Public Works that certain water sources in the province were suitable for the purpose, and that if a scheme were promoted by the Government it would provide current at a low rate.
In submitting the resolution, Councillor Sbackleford emphasised the importance of the matter not only to Mount Eden, but to aU the surrounding districts. A hydro-electric system would be cheaper and better than anything which had yet been adopted in Auckland. They would do well, he thought to follow the lead given by Christchurch both in the matter of street lighting and residential lighting, the first step, however, was to arrange for a conference of local bodies.
Cr. R. D. Stewart seconded the motion, and the resolution was carried unanimously.
