THE KOWHAI BLOSSOM.

The kowhai blossoms used In decorating the stall of the Civic League at the recent carnival and sold in the streets were the gift of the scout boys from Northcote. The boys arose at four in the morning to gather the golden bloom with a view to presenting it to the stallholders. The scenery committee of the Civic League are very interested in this flower, and consider it should be chosen as New Zealand's national flower. Its golden beauty and unique form have a peculiar attraction for New Zealanders. Some years ago there was a big agitation upon this subject in Feilding, and the local paper took up an enthusiastic stand for the yellow bloom, but after a time the subject was allowed to drop.
