Labo ° r Committee ha», with the exception of minor details now arranged the programme- forTtS celebrations on October 23rd; the nature of which was announced after a meeting of the committee ia the Trades Hall last evening. * The outstanding feature of this year's Labour Day celebrations is the abandonment ot the procession and adult sports. The committee has taken the view that the continuance of the war makes the holding or the procession and sports inexpedient and it has therefore decided to hazard the experiment of .transfonnmg Labour Da 7 m£o a chfldrens day. By Jus means the promoters of the celebrations calculate that the public will far more effectively be reached than by tne usual sports gathering, the poorllanty of which during recent years seems to hare been a decreasing quanAt last night's meeting a long children's sports programme was submitted and adopted, while arrangements were also made for installing sideshows, refreshment booths, etc., on the Domain. It was further announced that arrangements bad been made with the Railway Department for reduced fares from Helensville and Jlercer and intermediate stations. Admission to the Domain will be sixpence, against a shilling charged in previous years. The sports programme will commence at 11 o'clock, and in the afternoon speeches on current Labour topics will be delivered from platforms. All the Labour members of the House of Representatives have been invited to be,present, and at one time it was hoped to get Australian speakers, over for the occasion, but this part of the programme- Sias fallen through owing to the Gommonwealtli orators being busily engaged in the anti-conscription campaign at fihe other side. Arransements have also been marie for the holding of the second session n the Workers' Educational Association's conference in a marquee on the Domain.
