ARTILLERY ACTIVITY ON BRITISH FRONT
CONSIDERABLE SHELLING IN THE YPRES AREA. [Reuters Telegrams.! LONDON', October 5. Sir Douglas Haig reports:—"The hostik- artillery has been active, especially neighbourhood of the Zollern Redoubt, eastward of Thiepval, and between Guedecourt and Eaucourt l'Abbayc. An' attempted bombin" attack by the enemy in the latter region was repulsed. The Germans abandoned their wounded. I '"There has been considerable shelling south of the Ypres-Mcnin road. •'Hsewherc the front has been quiet. Rain continued during most ol the day." A French communique states: "Nothing important has occurred beyond the customary cannonade on the Somme, which was more intense in the vicinity of Belloy and Assevillcrs, south of the river. "Our infantry made progress cast of Morval.**
