AUCKLAND SAVINGS BANK.
BEACHED THE TWO MILLION MARK.
■An evidence of the steady growth of Auckland is the development of the Savings Bank, in which is deposited the Burphis money of the people. At a meeting o! the trustees held yesterday afternoon records were presented showing that the total funds of the institution now amounted to £2,000,000. Thie includes frame to credit of depositors, I accrued interest on deposits, accounts, I and the surplus profits. The matter wae brought up by ,3f r . j. jj. Upton, who i congratulated the vice-president (Mr. John Jenkin) upon being chairman at the meeting when the two million mark was reached in the history of the bank. It was a day <jf smaH things when the Auckland Savings Bank was started, •with the object of encouraging "workers in the habit of thrift. Several leading citizens of those daye took an interest; in the -work for the good of the people. The wildest flight of fancy would scarcely have reached forward to a time ■When the depositors in the little b*nk started in the cottage to Princes Street, sAoiiffelde the Museum, would be the combined owners of two million eterling.
