OCKENSEN'S REAR THREATENED THE RUSSIAN AWAKENING ANOTHER THRUST TOWARDS LEMBERC

; The Rumanian advance over the Danube in the Bustchuk area threatens the envelopment of yon Mackensen's army in the Dobrudja, and it is reported that he has already ordered a retirement from Turtukai and Silistria. Very important effects on the whole Balkans campaign are anticipated from this counter-move, the strength of whichNmay be gauged from the fact that while the crossing was in progress the Rumanians, reinforced by the Russians, were able to attack in the Dobrudja, forcing back the right flank and the centre. On the Southern Balkan front fairly important operations continue. The Serbs are still driving the Bulgars back to the north of Fiorina, while-enemy counter-attacks in the Struma sector were broken by artillery, the smash being followed up by the infantry, whose bayonets completed the rout. On the British front no important operations were in progress yesterday, while the guns had a day to themselves on the French line. Great interest attaches to the events on the Russian front, 'where Brussiloff is still preparing for a big smash against the enemy. The Germans attempted attacks on both sides of the Pripet Marshes without success, while further south, in the Zlota Lipa sector, the Czar's troops .have made some progress, and have taken prisoners at the rate, of a thousand a day for the past five days.
