ANOTHER DEADLOCK
OVER MAORI CASES. COUNSEL NOW INDISPOSED. The trial of the eon and three followers c: the "prophet" Rua suffered a further postponement to-day. His Honor Mr. Justice Hocking. who has 'been slightly indisposed, and Hon. J. A. Tole, K.C., Crown Prosecutor, were both present at the Supreme Court this morning in readiness for the case. The jury panel was also in attendance, but the trial could not proceed owing to the indisposition of Mt. J. R. liandon, who ie appearing for all four prisoners. After the jurymen had been sworn in. Mr. Tole informed his Honor that he had received a message from Mr. Lundon's bcuse, to the effect that the condition of Mr. Lundon's health was euch that he could not appear before Thursday next, when he -would be ready to proceed with the case wf George Sumich and Herbert Young, charged with conspiring to defraud. There was a further difficulty in regard to the Maori case, in that no jury had been summoned for next week. Mr. Tole went on to suggest that farther consideration of the matter should be l< ft till Thursday., and that the jury should be dismissed till then. Mr. 11. H. Ostler, who was in Court, stated that he had intended to make a similar statement of the position on Mr. Lundon's behalf. His Honor: I am very sorry, but there seeme to be no help for it. I don't suppc«e that the natives will -be fairly represented unless counsel appears, so we can't go on in the meantime. The jury ran be diemiseed till Thursday morning.
