THE TONGARIRO WRECK.
CARGO VALUED AT £220,000. SALVAGE WORK TO BE RESUMED. (By Association.) NAPIER, this day. According to latest advices from the wreck, all that remains of the Tongariro —the fore portion—is awash. At the end of this iweek another attempt is to be made at salving the cargo. Various methods will be tried, and that to be adopted will be decided upon after a thorough inspection of the wreck as it then stands. The inquiry into the circumstances connected with the loss of the Tongariro is to be held at Wellington on Friday next, instead of at Napier, as previously arranged. V ■. Mr Cato, manager at Napier for the Xew Zealand Shipping Company, states that the cargo on board the Tongariro at the time of the wreck was valued at about £220,000. while the value of the portion salvaged is estimated at £ 12,800. Details of insurances were not available locally, but it ie understood that Uoyd'e will be the heaviest loser.
