PLEA FOR COMPULSION. LESSON FROM NEW ZEALAND. (Australian and X.Z. Cable Association.) (Received 11.50 a.m.) SYDNEY, July 23. Canon Garland, speaking at a universal service meeting, asked what objection there could be to conscription when every Australian lived in a daily atmosphere of compulsion. New Zealand was far in advance of Australia in regard to Socialistic legislation, yet New Zealand led Australia in the adoption of universal service. THE NEW" WAR LOAN. MELBOURNE, July 28. • The Commonwealth Bank is investing £2.000,000 in the war loan, and the AOI.P. Society a further £1,000,000. ALIENS IN AUSTRALIA. ALL MUST REGISTER. MELBOURNE, this day. A war regulation just issued provides that all aliens over the age of 15 in the Commonwealth are to register. In the case of married men, the wives arc also to be registered.
