GIFT TO SOLDIERS.
FURNITURE FOR THE OLDB, There was a large gathering of boldiers at the Soldiers' Club this afternoon, when representatives from the Auckland Horticultural Society and the Women's Mutual Aid Society were present for the purpose of handing over a suite of leather uphplstered furniture for usd in the Club. 'Mr." W. Ilandley represented the Horticultural Society and Mesdamcs Geo. Wilson and N. yon Stunner and Miss N. Spedding the Mutual Aid Society. Mr. A. G. Lunn presided, and received the gift on behalf of the soldiers. In making the presentation Mr. Handley congratulated the men upon the excellent club they had secured. He said that he hoped that it would prove all that the promoters had desired for it. Mr. Handley expressed the thanks of the Horticultural Society to the ladies who had assisted his organisation in securing the neceesary funds Tn choosing the furniture he said they had been guided by a wish to get chairs and loujiges that would be serviceable and comfortable rather than showy. Mr. Handley also mentioned the assistance accorded to the donors by Mr. J. H. Gunson, On behali of the soldiers, Mr. Lunn received the gift, and thanked the givers. The suite comprised three large lounges and four armchairs.
