CLEANING PHILADELPHIA. NINE HUNDRED ARRESTS MADE (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) (Received 11.44 a.m.) NEW YORK. /July 16. In Philadelphia a great raid designed to clear the city of criminals took place to-day. There were nine hundred arreets. and the charges against the prifoners range from selling drugs to highway robbery. The. "round-up' , was carefuliy planned and cleverly carried outThe majority of the arreete were made in the "tenderloin" district. After the police stations were filled to overflowing the police took their prisoners to the pnblic hails, where they were placed under guards.
More warrants have still to be served. He raid is the sequel to a number of kouee and highway robberies, and a »aye of crime generally.
