NO MENTION OF BRITAIN'S SECOND OFFENSIVE, ADMISSION THAT BOTHMER SUFFERED A CHECK. ■ I (Received 1.30 pan.) ; LONDON", July 14. A German official .communique says:—"A stubborn fight developed on both sides, of the Somme. The English attacked early in the morning at Mamctz .Wood and Trones Wood. They Buffered considerably at Trones Wood by our reserves' rapid night, attack. The first enemy attempts were sanguinarily repulsed. New attacks arc developing. "Futile French, attacks in the Barleux region, 2i miles south-west of Peronne, and westwardward of Estrees, three,miles further to the south-west,: did not win a yard of ground. "Attempts to recapture lost ground east of the Meuse failed. "A counter-attack on tie Stokhod line near Zarepehe drove back the advancing Russians. The enemy penetrated the first line of General yon Bothmers army, north-east of Tarnopol, but was thrown out by a counterattack with important losses."
