(By RIFLEMAN.) EVENING PARADES. Mondays—No. 6 Company, N.Z.G.A.: No. 3 Field Company, N.Z.8.; B Company and Signallers, 3rd Regiment; Post and Telegraph Corps. Tuesdays. — No. 1 Company, N.Z.G.A.; Divisional Signal Company; A Company, ."rd Regiment; 3, 4, 6, and 7 Platoons, Coast Defence Infantry; Post and Telegraph Corps. Wednesdays.—No. 7 Company, N.Z.G.A.; C Company. 3rd Regiment. Thursdays.—A Battery. N.Z.F.A.: D Company. 3rd Regiment; 1. 2. 5. and 8 Platoons. Coast Defence Infantry, No. 1 Field Ambulance. DAYLIGHT iPARADES. July S—A Company. 3rd Auckland Regiment 'Musketry); July 8. A Company: July 1.", B Company; July 22, C Company: •July —11, I".' I'ompjui.v. Companies will parade in each case at the Auckland railway station at 1 p.m. ' No. 1 Field Ambulance will recommence its training on Thursday week, July 13, and will drill henceforth on Thursdays instead of Tuesdays, the former night having been found to suit the convenience of the members better. Tn a company otclci", Major 15. J. Dudley impresses on all ranks the need for regular attendance at drills during the territorial yeaT now commencing, especially as the course of instruction is progressive and covers a wide range of subject?, making gaps hard to fill up. Some internal rearrangement is to be made in the unit. Captains M<UCclvcy. Mackenzie and .lohnson taking charge of A B and C sections respectively.

Past and present membere of the A Battery will be genuinely glad to hear of the well won promotion received by Ueute. C. X. Newman (now captain). Seeond-Lie\its. H. H. Doughty and M. .1. Lyone (now lieutenants), and Hergt.Major F. C. Soar and Sergeant W. J. Hk-ks. who have received commit-eions. All these, with the exception of Lieut. Doughty, left with the Main Force, and served through the whole Gallipoli campaign, from the landing to the evacuation. Captain Newman being mentioned in dispatches lor meritorious service. At least two other members of the Battery have been given commissions in the field—Corporal N. H. Purdy (who "threw in" his commission in order to leave with the Main Body) and Sergt. Cedric Adams, ako a Main Body man.

A dinner and reunion of past and present members of the A Battery will probably be held shortly. Such re unions have been almost annual affairs in the past, and have invariably provoked interesting and amusing reminiscences of earlier day 6. No 1 Company, Post and Telegraph Engineers, held ite third annual dinner on Saturday night, and made it a very successful affair. Apart from the pleasure they give, these friendly gatherings do a great deal to promote good fellowship and a happy understanding between officers and men, and in the case of the older corps — some of which date back half a century—they serve to keep alive the worthy traditions of years gone by. One would like to sec half-yearly reunions (company or regimental) in the form of -moke concerts, at which officers and 4 men could meet with pleasure and not work in view.

A LESSON FROM DITNEDIN. The fine modern miniature rifle range at the Kensington Drill Hall. Dunedin, recently described column. 6eems tc be something that might advantageously be copied in this city. It is true that there is a miniature range in the loft over the "artillery bail" adjoining the main drill hall, but this suffers from some disadvantages, and apparently is little used at present, except by the Women's National Reserve. It has been often paid that musketry is the weakest point of the territorial training system, and anything which will help to train the Tecruit in shooting at "times when ■he cannot visit the range ought to be encouraged in every way possible. An up-to-date miniature Tange, with accommodation for a number of men at a time, would be invaluable, especially 6ince the Defence Department is now iseruing Rose (Canadian) rifles converted to .22 calibre for instructional purposes. These rifles iave the original triggertension unaltered, and when used in conjunction with the "Solano" landscape target, give the nearest possible approach to conditions out of doors. Every I penny spent on the establishment of such a miniature range would certainly be returned many times over —in fact money could hardly be better spent. In these days of patriotic effort the idea ought to commend iteelf to some of our' wealthy citizens.
