FORSAKING THE FARM.
LABOUR WH, BE SCARCE. GOVERNMENT ACTION. (Received 10.16 a.m.) LOXDOX, July 2. 1 The Agricultural Departmental Com- J mittee reports that it is estimated that ' one-tliird of the agricultural labourers, namely, three hundred thousand, have enlisted. It is expected that only 25 per cent, will return after the war. The committee points out that it is imperative that something should be done to swell the ranks of ajrricultural labour 1 and otherwise maintain production. The committee recommends the Government to ta-ke measures for ensuring the prosperity of agriculture, and enabling the payment of a minimum wape.
