A German communique reports a great Anglo-French offensive on a'twenty-five-mile front after strong artillery and gas preparation, but states that no advantages worth mentioning were gained. From Ciommeeourt to La Boiselle they penetrated our first line in the region abutting the Somme, compelling the withdrawal of our division into pre-arranged positions. We lost front-line material which was immovable. Other attacks were unsuccessful. The Austro-Gcrmans stormed the heights south-west of Tarnonol I
