The vessel reached the Victorian port from San Francisco last Sunday week, and soon after the lunch hour the following day smoke wae observes issuing from cabins situated on the main deck amidships. The fire 'brigade was | summoned by telephone, and meantime the I ship's fire apparatus was brought into play. I On the arrival of the brigade the outbreak 1 was quickly subdued, but not before tbc ! two cabins were gutted and portion of the dining saloon damaged. Nothing is known us to tie origin of the fire, but carefial in- - : qniry is being made with a view to solving the mystery. HUDDART-PARKER STEAMERS. The Westralia will arrive here at about midnight to-nig:ht from Sydney. A wireless message received from the master. Captain Easson, states that she is meeting heavy weather. .She left Sydney at 1 p.m. on Thursday last for this port. Alter discharging WOO ti>ns of cargo she will s-ail for Dunedin, via East Coast ports. The Westralia is to berth at the Queen's wharf. The Victoria has been considerably delayed in her trip up the East Coast, and it is thought that she will not arrive until tomorrow. She left Giebome at 2 a.m. this ■mornine, so that with the heavy weather on the ooast it is hardly likely that she will arrive before 3 a.m. 'She will berth with the Westralta at the Queen's wharf, and her sailing for Sydney is at present fixed at 3 p.m. tn-morrow, though this will probably be postponed POKT CF OKEBXTNGA.
