MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
MAINTENANCE CASES. On the grounds of persistent cruelty, failure to maintain, and habitual drunkenness, Mabel Jackson applied for separation and maintenance Irotn her husband. Mr. Matthews appeared for the plaintiff and Mr. A. Moody for the defendant. The defendant admitted that drink had been the cause of the trouble. He denied having struck his wife at any time, and said that she was. a good wife to him. The Magistrate extracted a solemn promise from the defendant that he would refrain from drinking, and the case was adjourned for a week to give the parties a further chance to settle Matters amicably.
