SEGREGATION OF AUSTRIANS.
PRIME MINISTER'S ASSURANCE. The Prime Minister has sent a reply to the telegram dispatched this week by Mr. F. L. Gribbin on behalf of-the Auckland members of the kauri gum trade, urging the Government not to take steps'to segregate Austrian gumdiggera until investigations had been made by the Aliens Board or a judicial commission. Mr. Massey's telegram is as foladministration of the Government since the war commenced should have made it clear that we will do our duty to the very letter, and every precaution will be taken to ensure the peace of mind and safety ot the public. There will, however, be no harshness, and every effort will be made to avoid injury to the industry in which you are interested." ' -- ■■ ' -•yj i
