MERELY SUGGESTIONS.
LOYALISTS Hf PRECARIOUS POSITION. SINN FEINISM SPREADS. (Times anil Sydury Sun Services.> LONDON, June 30. Tlic debate in the House of Lords disposes of the rumours that the Marquis of Lansdowno had resigned. Apparently the whole Irish settlement' is still fluid. Mr Lloyd George's proposals were only before the Cabinet after the Whitsuntide holiday?, and their examination has not yet Been concluded. The Marquis of Crewe incidentally explained that Mr Lloyd George's proposals i were the suggestions of a mediator, not j the terms of iin arbitrator. j A feature of the debate was the description by the Marquis of Salisbury and Viscount Midleton of the condition of Ireland, of which the public were wholly ignorant. They said the position of the loyalists, both Unionists and Nationalist, was becoming very precarious in many parts. Sinn Feinism was becoming the dominant faith in three Nationalist provinces. Matters were daily growing worse because the people believed that the Government was about to make a complete surrender. The Marquis of Salisbury stated that a number of rebels released from prison had returned to Ireland, and were wearing Sinn Fein uniforms and organising the country against the Government.
