"DO IT NOW."
MAYOR ON UNIVERSITY SITE. Reference to the vexed question of the University site was made at the Auckland City Council meeting last night. Tt| was introduced by Mr. E. Dayis, whoi asked the Mayor if he, as the Council* representative on the University College Council, could not give the Council | an opportunity of expressing its views] on the subject. "I take it." Mr. Davis j remarked, "we have a right to havei some voice in the matter." j "It is a very thorny question," replied; ■his Worship, "but one that nevertheless ought to be settled. And it seems to mc that it ought to be settled by the people of Auckland, and not so much by the authorities in Wellington. It must be perfectly clear that there will be no more sites available in the future than there are to-day. As the years go by the number of sites available will be much less, and the selection become necessarily limited to sites perhaps not so good as those offering now. I think the Council is entitled to express an opinion, and will bring the matter before the committee."
