SALARIES NOT TO BE TAXED
A WAR PROFIT POINT. (By Telegraph—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON", Thursday. While the Land and Income Tax Bill was passing through committee in the House of Representatives to-night, Mr. Wilford created a diversion by informing members of the Treasury benches thai a thought had suddenly come to him. Would the salaries of Ministers who had joined Cabinet since war broke out be subject to taxation on war profits, seeing that their Parliamentary honorarium of £300 had been increased to £1,000? Amid general laughter Sir Joseph Ward explained, lest there might be any misunderstanding on the subject, that salaries and wages would not be included in taxation on war profits. The Prime Minister also rose, and was trying to make himself heard above roars of merriment, when the Chairman of Committees ruled him out of order.
