ENEMY ATTACK ON THIAUMONT FAILS.
HELD UP BY CURTAIN OF FIRE. ? STJCCESSFOX FRENCH RAID IN THE CHAMPAGNE. / (High Commissioner's Cable.) LONDON, June 29. In the Champagne, from Tahurc. cast of the Butte de Mesnil, a coup-de-main permitted us to destroy the enemy first line trenches and penetrate points of the second line, blowing up several shelters. On the left bank of the Meuse there was artillery fighting on Hill 304, but no infantry attacks. On the right bank, after artillery firing all the afternoon, the Germans attacked at eight in tho evening north-east of Thiaumont work. They were arrested by our curtain and machine-gun fire. The enemy was unable to penetrate our lines, and suffered considerable losses. During the night there was a lively bombardment on Chenois Wood, east of Fleury.
