RUSSIANS ATTACKED ON THE RIGA FRONT.
ENEMY REPULSED WITH HEAVY LOSSES. PETROGRAD, June 29. A Russian communique states:—"South-east of Riga the enemy, on the night of the 27th inst., after a heavy bombardment, and after emitting clouds of gas, attacked in gTeat force in the direction of Piilkarn. Reinforcements opportunely arrived, and we succeeded in repulsing the enemy with heavy losses. "In his endeavour to arrest our offensive in Bukowina the enemy is neglecting no means to prevent our building bridges at many points, but our engineers and bridges corps are surmounting all difficulties and display admirable self-sacrifice." * A German communique states:—"General Linsingen stormed and captured Liniewka, west of Sokul." 4
