COST OF ENGRAVINGS GOES UP

Explaining the recent advance in ' prices as the Tesult of increased wages and higher prices of materials the ' Photo Engravers' Board *of Twde of New York has issued a new list of prices, ' says the "Fourth Estate" of May. With ' the announcement is given a printed list of some of tlie raw materials used in engraving, the prices of which have advanced since July, 1914. According to the statement, copper has risen 46 per > cent., zinc 240 per cent., and chemicals from 33 per cent, to 1246 per cent Bromide of potassium, which sold before the war at forty-one cents per pound, now brings 5 dollars 52 cents. In future the minimum price for halftones wul be 2 dollars. No square inch price will be quoted for work under 140 square inches in size, and over that size the price is fifteen cents per square ' inch in half-tones. Electrotypers have also advanced their prices, alleging increased cost of materials.
