An informal meeting of creditors in the bankrupt estate of William Chan, fruiterer, of Karangahape Road, was held to-day at the Official Assignee's office. After some discussion, it was agreed the bankrupt should be permitted to try and continue his business conditionally upon his making small weekly payments towards the liquidation of his liabilities. An indignant fellow Chinese, who wae a creditor, remarked to the bankrupt: "Ask your heart (you are supposed to be a Christian) how mucli you have spent gambling on Sunday?" When the hankrnpt denied the imputation, added "You do the same," the creditor " I own up to it, I am fond of sport, and can afford it. I do not owe anything." Asked by Mr. W. S. Fiahcr:
"Is it fan tan you play?" the man said, in a shocked voice, " Oh no, not fan tan, it ds pack-a-poo, quite a < gentleman's game," to which the bankrupt, as a parting shot, said "For gentlemen like (you."
