NEXT TUESDAY'S CELEBRATION". , In. connection wltb. tlie celebration of- • the anniversary of the landing at Anzae, the procession in Queen Street should be an interesting feature of the proceedings. The •Ministcr'for Defence has given permission for discharged men to appear in uniform, and free passes oh the railway have been granted to allow men to be present from country districts. Tlte King's Empire Veterans will form a guard of honour-to the returned soldiers at the Town Hall, and the members are requested .to turn out with decorations and medals. All returned soldier's are inyited to take part in the commemoration . service, and to assemble at the foot of Queen Street not later than 2.15 p.ni. Motor cars will bn provided for thfi wounded men who are unable to walk ' in the procession. 1 The Mayor (Mr. J. H. ' In addition to the gathering in the ( Town Hall on Tuesday afternoon special services are to be held in a number of y the city and suburban churches. At Onehunga a united memorial service will be held in' the Presbyterian Church. The ( Major and councillors of the bordugli . have been invited to attend. The following churches will take part:— ' Presbyterian, Methodist, Congregational, | Church of Christ, and the Salvation . Army. At Pitt Street Methodist Church a ] united patriotic service will be held vi ' the evening, and from 11 to noon an in- ] tercession service. Anzac Day commemoration service ' will be held on Tuesday evening at Mount Eden Baptist Church, when Cap-tain-Chaplain Howard Elliott will pre : side, and addresses' are to be delivered by Captain-Chaplain Knowles Kcmpton, Revs. A. North and W. S. Rollings. A combined choir will lead the' singing. In the evening there is to be a concert in the Town Hall, at which the performers are to be. Miss Jessie Bartlett, Mr. Barry Coney, Mr. Manghan Barnett and the Auckland Choral Societ.y. No charge will be made. A special memorial service to fallen soldiers will be held to-morrow by! the Salvation Army at the Opera .House. The Dead March in "Saul " will be played as the procession marches lip Queen Street. There was a large attendance of scholars, parents, and friends at the Point Chevalier school for the purpose of commemorating Anzac Day, and much j interest was added to the meeting, by the presence of Sergeant Burton, lata assistant master of the echool, who was on leave from Trentham. After-a brier address from the chairman of the School Committee (Mr. G. J. Howee) a splendid and stirring speech was made by Mr. W. R. Tuck, M.A., during the course of which he gave a synopsis .of British history leading up io the Boer war, and thence to the present terrible struggle. He urged hie audience, to endeavour to live up to the standard of duty set by the heroes whose bravery was being com- : memo rated that afternoon. The scholars .then sang Kipling' 3 Recessional Ode in a j manner that showed careful traininj. 1 After saluting the flag"three' cheere were, given for the heroes of Anzac, also for i the headmaster (Mr. Mclnnes), Sergeant jEurton. A large number of parents and friinds assembled at the Ellerslie public echool ground at 2.30 p.m. on Thursday, f6r the purpose of holding aii Anzac celebration before breaking up for the Easter vacation. Mr. C. MacKinhey, chairman of the committee, presided, and in opening the proceedings eloquent patriotic addressee were delivered by the Rev. Teasdale (Anglican) and the Rev. Jphnhtono (Presbyterian), als6 by Mr. C; Elly, member of the committee; Mr. i'Lasvry. and the headmaster, Mr: Woblley. Patriotic songs were well rendered by the scholars. It wae mentioned that no less than 47 old boys of the school had enlisted for active (service at the front, of whom five had made the supreme sacrifice of their lives for the Empire. NORTHCOTE SCHOOL OBSERVANCE. The *hble of the scholars of the main Northcote School were assembled in the playground on Thursday afternoon: Addresses appropriate to the occasion were given by Mr. F, Murphy, headmaster, who also read a message relative to "Anzac Day" from the Mayor of Northcote (Mr. Geb. Praser) ; Sergeant J. H. Braithwaite, of the 13th Reinforcements, ex-assistant master at Northcote school; and the chairman of the committee, Mr. Jas. P. McPhail, who Tead a letter from Mrs. A. P.- Cowie, sending along for the school museum a piece of the wrapper of the Fanning Island cable, which had been cut by the Germans. The scholars, under Mr. Crdiby, saluted the Union Jack and sang the National Anthem. Private Thed. Maxwell,, of the 13th Reinforcements, on final leave, and an erstwhile pupil of the school, was present, and also a number of parents.
