Mr G. Howie presided at the monthly meeting of the Town Board. The Clerk of 1 the Piako County Council wrote that at a special meeting a letter from the Department of Internal Affairs wae placed before the Council, to the effect that the boundaries of the Morrinsvllle Town District had been enlarged, and that the proclamation enlarging same was to take | effect from February 17. This was the first intimation that the Council had received, that it was the Intention'of "the Board to enlarge its district and he councillors considered that the Council had been i treated very disconrteoneiy. The chairman 1 remarked that It was the duty of the Government to hare advised the Piako county in regard to this matter, and to have sent them a copy of the notice in the "Gasette." On the motion of the chairman, it was decided that the clerk write to the Council regretting that there had been any misunderstanding, but the Board had understood from Its solicitor that the Government would communicate with the Council. An offer to submit a tender for lighting the town with petrol gas was received from T. Ewell, but it was resolved not to do anything In the matter unless the Gas Company failed to proceed with the erection of works at the end of next month. - '.T A credit balance-of £75 14/ was reported by the clerk, and accounts amounting to £87 11/8 were passed fox payment On account of the dry season, the chairman considered that a water trough ought to be erected in the middle of the town and it was decided that the Works Committee should interview Mr Scholium tea site opposite the' Post Office. A good deal of discussion took place re the epidemic of infantile paralysis. Mr Hewitt eonsiaered the Bchool should be closed, and also mentioned that the building was overcrowded. Mr Marshall (School Commissioner) stated that he had wired the chairman of the Board, who considered it was not necessary to dose the school. Mr Parlour also spoke in favour of closing. It was suggested that a protest meeting of householders be held; but on the motion of Mr Hewitt It was resolved that a comnmnteathm be sent to the Education Board asking them to close the school, and setting out the reasons.
