The Public Works aud Services Committee recommended, in connection with the water, used m, pumping sewage, that the Lake Takapuna Board ot Central be advised that steps v.-ere being taken to reduce the consumption of water from the lake, and that details and estimates of the disposal of sewage were being adopted. The recommendation was adopted. The letter making the application stated that 32 out of a membership of 45 had gone to the front John Thomas Ryan, who admitted an aggravated assault on his wife at Devonport, came before Mr. F. V. Frazer, S.M., at the Police Court this afternoon for sentence. The Magistrate 6aid that there was a difficulty in the way, of sending the man to Roto Roa Island, and he did not think that probation and a prohibition order (would meet the case. The only way out of the difficulty seemed to be a term of reformative treatment, which could be shortened by the Prisons Board when it was considered that the punishment had been sufficient. Ryan would be sentenced to reformative detention for sot more than 12 months, and ordered to pay, £7 _/- expenses.
