AUCKLAND'S RESPONSE.

GRATIFIES PRIME MINISTER. * "" RESERVES OPINION ABOUT SOUTH. TILL HE HAS VISITED IT. The Prime Minister (the Right Hon. W. F. Massey), when approached this morning for an expression of opinion on the subject of equity in the matter of the call for men as among the various provinces, remarked: "While I am grathfcd at the fact that the Auckland district is doing particularly well in'the matter of recruiting, 1 would prefer not to express any definite opinion regarding the position in Canterbury and Otago until I have had an opportunity of looking into it. I intend to go south as soon as I can be spared from Wellington, and after I have been down there I shall be better able to express an opinion, and to make suggestions with the object of getting over the pre- j sent difficulty."
