NO ROOM FOR LUXURIES

IN BRITISH TRADERS. ALL TO BE BARRED. (Received 2.30 p.m.) LONDON, March 20. An American Associated Press correspondent, who had an interview with Mr Walter Runcimnn (Home Secretary), states that Britain will shortly issue a far-reaching Ordcr-in-Council prohibiting the importation of luxuries from all countries, including the Dominions. The issuance of the order is forced on the country entirely owing to the shortage of tonnage. Motor cars, musical instruments, cutlery, hardware, yarns, china-ware, fancy goods, and soap will be banned. Referring to the post-war condition of the workers, Mr Runciman believes that labour would find itself in much tiic same position at the end of the war as at the beginning.
