GARDEN PARTY AT BIRKENHEAD.
a — A garden party was held at the residence of Mr. and Mrs H. Hayward yesterday afternoon for the purpose of the extending of felicitations of the Auckland Theatre stalls 1 to Mr Philip Hayward, the popular manager , of the Lyric Theatre, and his bride, who have recently returned from a tour of the Cold Lakes district. About one hundred and fitty of the members met at the beautiful home at Birkenhead, where they were received by Mr and Mrs H. Hayward and Mr and Mrs Philip Hayward. The nature of the weather added to the enjoyment of the day, and the company spent a pleasant afternoon in the extensive gronnds. The combined orchestras of the Lyric and King's Theatres, under Mr J. ,W. Carleton, provided delightful music, and a novel Incident was introduced by taking motion pictures 1 of the guests walking about the gardens. | The attendanace of a fortune-teller who was i installed in a secluded bower was greatly appreciated, and the guests keenly enjoyed the altejavoß.
