GIFT PARCELS.

SEW SCHEME PROPOSED. ;§1 EACB MAN GETS OKE. ■ •, -j& president of the Auckland TVomen's ' pjjriotic League, Mrs J. H. Gunson, ,-sfife of the Mayor of Auckland, wishes -to appeal to the patriotism and generosity of the people of the province to 'assist in a scheme for the provision and forwarding of gifts to the front. During a conference recently held in Wellington, called by the Countess ot Liverpool., it was decided that the whole Dominion, should unite in a gift monthly to every soldier on active service with the : .Sew Zealand forces, the organisation to be through the four main centres, each arranging to provide approximately 5000 gifts per month. The . ; decision was governed by the following considerations: —(1) Cabled information that 6Uch gifts would be greatly appreciated by the men; (2) information cabled and personal advice from relia-ble sources that general distribution is the only satisfactory plan, and no other can be undertaken, as men from particular districts are now distributed throughout the forces: (3) overlapping would be - avoided, and the present precarious and haphazard system substituted by a more reliable plan. We have'had ample evidence that our '"Christmas billy" gift. i practically carried out on this plan, was successful. The League has arranged that assistance may be given by any of the plans undermentioned: —(1) The forwarding j ot parcels made up as under, in any number; (2) the donation of any of the articles enumerated in bulk, the League . undertaking to pack out into individual parcels; (3) the donations or monthly subscriptions of any amount, which will be expended by tie League in articles and packed by them. The approximate cost of each parcel is 2/6, and any person or society donating or subscribing . that sum monthly may have a card with name or message enclosed in each parcel. Any of the following may be selected: —Tin of condensed milk, tin of sweets, tin oi jam, essence of meat, insect powder, tablet soap or soap powder, tooth brush, shaving or toilet paper, writing paper tablet. The articles should, be placed together , and wrapped around with one of the following:—One pair of socks, one mutlJer, one balaclava, one small towel. The parcel should be tied round with string, tape or bootlace, and then tied up cornerwise in khaki handkerchief. If the sender wishes, he or she may enclose a card with name of donor or other message. V.Tien ready the parcels should be forr warded to the local Patriotic Leagues, •or io the Mayoress, Town Hall, Auckland, marked plainly on the outside "iJominion Gift," and name of donor, and an acknowledgment will he sent. These gifts will be packed in uniform 'cases, Jisted. and forwarded direct to the . front.
