TEACHERS' GRADING.

THE DOMINION SCHEME.

The Minister for Education (Hon. J. A. Hanan) replied a few days ago to the representations made recently by the Auckland Assistant Masters' Association, urging that the Dominion grading scheme for teachers be postponed for some years. Mr Hanan stated that in proceeding promptly -with the scheme he was carrying out the wiehes of the great body of teachers in New Zealand. In ordeT to make the scheme effective, it must toe gone on with afonce; in fact, steps that had already been taken effectually prevented a postponement. No request for delay or reconsideration had come from any but a section of the teachers in Auckland. Teachers elsewhere had expressed their appreciation yery freely, and in their interests—being numbered fully 4000—he was going on with the scheme. The Educational Institute, while it had refrained from presenting a Dominion grading scheme for adoption, had urged the Government to take the matter in hand at the earliest opportunity.
