gpBJJEUT. J. R. LAIDLAWS FATAX TALL XPBILE IXYHTG AT HENIX>N. DROP OF 250 FEET. (Received 2.35 p.m.) LONDON", March 17. Sub-Lientenant John Ritchie Laidlaw, of Auckland, New Zealand, was flying at Uendon this morning, when his machine fell from a height of 250 ft. Lieutenant Laidlaw was killed instantly by the fall. Sub-lieutenant Laidlaw was the third eon of Mr Robert Laidlaw. of the well known firm, Laidlaw. Leeds, wholesale merchants and warehousemen, of this oty. Mr Laidlaw being eager to serve his" country, went to London last August jn company with Mr Price, salesman to the firm. Entering the Royal Naval branch of the Aerial Service, Mr Laidlaw was in training at Hendon several jnonths, after which he was gazetted cub-lieutenant. He was dispatch manager for the firm, a single man, 24 years of age- Hh 'brother, Mr Arthur Laidlaw, has enlisted, and is waiting to be called up. This is the fourth manager af the firm that has enlisted.
