LETTERS TO SOLDIERS.
SURTAX NOT CHARGED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Postmaster - General announces that it has been decided not to require payment of the halfpenny war tax postage on postal packets addressed to soldiers, either in camp in New Zealand or on active service abroad. The cost of this concession is estimated at approximately £12,000, but the Minister is decidedly of opinion that correspondence between soldiers and their friends should be provided for on the simplest possible terms.
