GERMANS ALARMED AT NUMBER OF WOUNDED

VIOLENT ASSAULTS WEST OF MEUSE FAIL CONCENTRATED ARTILLERY FIRE INFLICTS HEAVY LOSSES. LONDON, March 17. The ''Frankfurter Zcitung" states that convoys of wounded are continually passing through Frankfort, and that the fact is arousing the greatest anxietyIt is feared that the Germans are suffering enormous losses at Verdun. The Wolff Agency, however, has informed the German Press that the convoys in question are composed of wounded and captured French soldiers. -An official French communique says: — After the moet violent bo.mbardment of the Bethincourt to Cumieres front the Germans in the afternoon made a strong attack at Mort Homme. Jbey came on in waves to the aseault, but were not able to secure a footing at any point, and -were compelled to fall back. The French concentrated fire was immediately let loose upon the enemy and Inflicted great losses. On several occasions the French batteries caught $he Germans, who were marching on the right bank of the Meusc, ■\Yest of the Meuse, after a bombardment of Bethincourt and Cumieres, the Germans delivered a powerful attack against the French positions at Mort Homme Wood, but were unable to gain a footing anywhere. They fell back pn the Bois dcs Corbeaux. Bombardment on the whole front by both sides is general.
