TO JOIN FEDERATION. i AJfD ACCEPT THE COMPROMISE. MEETING LAST EVENING. At a full meeting of the Onehun<»a Waterside Workers' Union, held last evening, it was decided to join the Waterside Workers' Federation, and to negotiate for an agreement similar in terms', to the compromise recently .arrived at between the employers .and the Federation at the Welilngton con- ' fcrence. The meeting was held in the waiting ' room, at Onehunga, and was presided over by Jlr Pearce, and was attended !iby Messrs. G. H. Wood (president), and "j'B.' Ricka'rds (secretary), of the Auckland Waterside Workers' Union. The , Auckland officials were present by mviii tation to explain the conditions of the ■ ' new agreement recently entered into jby the Auckland union. ,1 Mr Rjckards, who was the first . speaker after the chairman had explained t the ■ objects of the meeting;- addressed i the men on the question of federation, ! and strongly advised the Onehunga I union to join, as it was one of the last ' three unions to ■bo left outside the i Federation. I Mr Wood dealt extensively with the I proposed new agreement, and suggested ' that the union should endeavour to ! obtain similar conditions. : ! At tlie conclusion of the addrees a ■ ballot was taken, and the decision to join the Federation was affirmed 'by a '•vote unanimous save one. ' j The secretary and president of the I affiliating union were empowered to conifer with' the Auckland officials with a iviervv to drawing up a proposed new , I agreement.
