The City Fire Brigade was called ont three times last night, and once again this morning, but in no case was there much work to be done by the firemen. A scrub fire in Williamson Avenue, Grey Lynn, at 9 p.m., was very easily disposed of, and half-an-hour later the ignition of some rubber insulation on a taxi-cab in Queen Street again led to a turnout. In this case very little damage was done to the taxi-cab, though the burning rubber produced a great deal of smoke. At 11.8 the brigade was again called out, this time through a false alarm in' Victoria Street. At 8 o'clock this morning a call was received from Guildry Street; Newton, where a fire had broken out in 'the washhduse of a dwelling owned'by a Mr. Jlewitson, and occupied 'by a Mr: Benton. Some coals from the copper bad fallen on to the wooden floor of the Vvashh'ouse, but the (iro was put out before much damage had been done.
