EMBARGO ON HIDES.
BAD EFFECT ON SALES. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DL'NEDIX, Wednesday. A meeting of farmers, graziers, and butchers was held at Burnside to-day for the purpose of considering the action of tlie Government in placing an embargo on the exportation of hides. It is contended that the embargo is having a mischievous effect on sales, as only one buyer operates for the whole of the tanner.3 in. one centre, .and ..the minimum price is made the maximum; also that owing to the high price of cattle, with every indication of higher values in the immediate future, it.is absolutely necessary that the market value be obtained for such a dearly bought product, otherwise the general public must suffer while a few tanners are reaping the harvest. A motion embodying the above statements, and asking that the export of hides be permitted under conditions not more rigorous than those pertaining to the export of wool, was passed unanimously.
